Restaurants and Eateries in Trujillo

Despite its small size, Trujillo offers a variety of fantastic eating joints and watering holes. They are located in four parts; one is downtown Trujillo and the other is the beaches that are just below the town. The other two are the beaches by the airport and the stretch between Santa Fe and Trujillo. Downtown Trujillo and the beaches are within walking distance while the other two can be easily reached from Christopher Columbus Beach Resort and The Trujillo Bay Hotel. Taxi service can be used to reach one area from the other though local transportation is better to reach the eateries around Santa Fe. Following is a list of the restaurants and eateries on basis of their location and not listed in any specific order.

Downtown Trujillo

La Cazuela Restaurant

A part of Colonial Hotel, a pleasant property near the main square of Trujillo, this restaurant has a good choice of international dishes and a well-stocked full service bar. It is open daily between 6:30 am and 11:30 pm.

A Cuban American owner has opened Mambo also in downtown Trujillo. The international menu and the well stocked bar is becoming quite popular and the air condition gives a relief when the temperature soars.

Rogue's Gallery

This very popular bar located right at the beach is owned by an Expat Jerry and his Honduran wife Luisa. They are famous for their gringo breakfast and open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. Seafood is the food to be ordered here and becomes the base for the travelers who are spending the day on the beach. Friendly staff, fantastic service makes this place that just can't be missed.

Don Bene

When looking for Garifuna restaurant, most end with Don Bene. Located in Bo. Cristales, it can be reached by turning right (towards the beach), just before the Cristales bridge. Everything about the place is great including price, service, full stocked bar and staff.

Trujillo Airport Beaches

Restaurante Isabella

This eatery is on the Christopher Columbus Beach Resort and has one of the best views of the beach. They have a good international menu, a well maintained bar and air conditioning. The restaurant is open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Santa Fe Area

Though this area is not strictly in Trujillo, but it offers some very good eateries. Being close, there will be no problem reaching these restaurants.

Vista Coronada

This place is in Trujillo, on the road that leads to Santa Fe. To reach it, one has to go past the Cristales and a soccer field that is outside the city. This place can be a destination in itself as the view is just amazing and the place has a great swimming pool and well groomed gardens. It is not open everyday but only from Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. International menu and local seafood are good choices in the menu. The daily specials include all time favorites like Pasta pesto, pizza and sumptuous homemade soups. All the prices are very reasonable. The selections of smoothies and fruit juices are welcomed by patrons all the time and they also have a pay and use pool the fee of which is around Lps 60.00. Campamento Restaurant

A little paradise of palm tree situated beside the beach, this eating joint is just 4 km from Trujillo on the way to Santa Fe. It is the place for local delicacies like iguana and tepes quintle. The seafood is also good as is the well stocked bar. The operation time is 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.

El Caballero

The best place for seafood in whole of north coast of Honduras, this restaurant is patronized by locals and tourist alike. In a rustic environment, they offer the most outstanding food. Located 12 km of Trujillo in the Garifuna community of Santa Fe, this is a not-to-be missed eating place.

Guiriga

The menu is limited but the service is very good as are the staffs. Also there are pool tables in the premise and a full bar.

Puerto Castilla

Casa Kiwi

It is a pleasant beach bar and restaurant that is not exactly in the Puerto Castilla region. The best way to reach there is to take the Trujillo – Puerto Castilla bus service and ask to be dropped at the Casa Kiwi restaurant-bar. This place is the haunting place of the backpackers though local expats love to come here on the weekend. The service here is fantastic and the staff very friendly. The bar is of international standard and the restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes and snacks.
